Frequently Asked Questions

Why was the Yukon Elementary Academic Alliance (YEAA) formed?

We hear so much about the struggling economy, state funding cutbacks and the impacts to our children's education. A quality public education deserves more than our state can afford. Even in the good years, we rely on our hard working PTA to augment state funding, sponsoring wonderful enrichment and intervention programs. But PTA has restrictions on the types of initiatives it can sponsor and fundraising it can conduct. Many schools in our district have formed education or academic alliances - nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations incorporated specifically to address the needs of an individual school. These alliances work in partnership with the principal, teachers, parents, and the PTA to help the school meet its goal of providing a quality education to our children.

What is an academic alliance?

It is a nonprofit, tax-exempt school site based organization that allows the community, parents, teachers, administrators, and student body to support enrichment and intervention opportunities that are not able to be funded by the district or PTA.

How can it serve our needs?

An Academic Alliance can sponsor programs that benefit the students at Yukon Elementary School. The alliance, led by school administration, staff, parents, and community members would identify areas of greatest need, raise funds for, and oversee selected enrichment and intervention programs.

What about PTA?

The PTA is a valued and essential organization at Yukon and at every school site. But there are local and national restrictions that limit the programs it can sponsor. The alliance would work in partnership with PTA and our School Site Council (SSC) to achieve the educational goals at Yukon Elementary School.

How can I help?

There are several ways you can help. First, the purpose of the Alliance is to raise money to fund enrichment and intervention programs at Yukon Elementary School. The obvious method to help is to donate money. Once confirmation is received from the Internal Revenue Service and Franchise Tax Board, all donations will be tax deductible.

You can volunteer your time to help with planning and participating in fundraising activities.

Lastly, you can supply your insight and ideas. We all have different backgrounds, interests, and experiences. It is that diversity that will help YEAA grow and provide the types of programs needed to help the students excel.
